Sorry for writing in English.

The region Terrains (hop://hypergrid.org:8002/Terrains/128/123/23) offers at present approximately 100 free terrains as .f32 files for OpenSim regions. Most are softly undulating hilly landscapes, but also some special landscapes, like mazes. The .f32 files are loaded through the sim console command e.g. "terrain load example.f32" if the file "example.f32" is present in the OpenSim bin directory.

The central plaza and landing point has vendors with all available terrains thumbnailed. The surrounding area has sculpt miniatures of the terrains. To the north, the terrains can be test-loaded at full scale in the region MB Sea 65. In the center of that region there is a convenient watch tower with a vendor for both display and download of all terrains.

Terrains is a region that is part of the MB Estate mini-continent in Metropolis-Grid. There you also find regions like Maggie's, a wonderfully warm and chaotic little corner of the metaversum, Europe C, center of a 9-region 3D map over Europe with all countries and major (population>100,000) cities marked, Astronomy, a little observatorium in a full-region, interactive, rotating, starry sky, and Maze, a full region maze with chasing sentinels.

The region Terrains and the MB Estates mini-continent is owned and maintained by Magnuz Binder and Maggie Binder.

Welcome, Explore and Enjoy!

Das sieht ganz klasse aus! :-)

A very short translation:

Gerd

Eventuell mach ich mir doch noch eine Region dazu....

Thank you Magnuz, is there a way to upload or convert the files as raw?

Kind Regards

Since I had a few questions the last few days, I hereby state that all terrains available in the Metropolis region Terrains, except the default "pimple" island, are originally designed by me, free for non-commercial use, and under Creative Common Attribution 3.0 Unported licence for commercial use.

In the south end of the central plaza in region Terrains there is now a vendor with all the present terrains in .raw format, permitting to load them into a region via the viewer.

I have added 20 more terrains as .f32 and .raw to the region Terrains now, and also to the terrain rezzer in region MB Sea 65. The new terrains are "geometric" ones, suitable for e.g. parcels for land "rental".

(I also updated the title of this post to include .raw terrains.)

I have updated all the vendors and terrain miniatures in the regions Terrains and MB Sea 65 to deliver .raw terrain files, since that's more convenient than the original .f32 files for those who don't have backend sim access.

There is also a thumbnailed web index for view and download of the .raw terrain files at http://5.9.108.75/terrains/

Many more free terrains

Beitragvon Magnuz Binder » So 25. Jan 2015, 10:15

There are now 600 new terrains added to the region Terrains in Metropolis (hypergrid.org:8002:terrains), varying in size between 256x256 m and 2560x2560 m. The terrains are soft, hilly islands or continents and released to the public domain, CC0. There are also 10 new var-regions for previewing these terrains, linked by teleporters from Terrains.

The terrains are grouped by size and scale, with sizes 256x256 m (1x1 region), 512x512 m (2x2 regions), 768x768 m (3x3 regions), 1024x1024 m (4x4 regions), 1280x1280 m (5x5 regions), 1536x1536 m (6x6 regions), 1792x1792 m (7x7 regions), 2048x2048 m (8x8 regions), 2304x2304 m (9x9 regions), 2560x2560 m (10x10 regions), and scales small, medium and large in details, with so far 20 terrains in each group.

Each terrain comes in a ZIP archive including a ReadMe text file, a PNG preview, the full terrain in both LLRAW (.raw) and RAW32 (.r32/.f32) format, and, when larger than 256x256 m, the terrain split into 256x256 m panes in LLRAW (.raw) format for use in standard regions, with relative positions indicated on the PNG preview.

The total area of the new terrains corresponds to 23100 256x256 regions or 1513 km2, and the 10 preview regions corresponds to 385 256x256 regular regions or 25 km2.

Unfortunately, the 0.8.0.3 release version of OpenSimulator used for the preview regions are slow at displaying terrains in large var-regions. This has been addressed in later dev versions, and I discovered that flying along the coastline of a 2560x2560 m terrain without the obstacle of sim crossings is a grand and almost overwhelming feeling in the most recent ArribaSim.
