How can I make that version work with metropolis

You are on your own risk if you try a 0.9.x version of OpenSim in the Metropolis grid. The grid runs with the Metropolis edition which is very similar to OpenSim 0.8.3 or 0.8.2.1.

If you don't bother some compatibility issues (=missing features), you can already run a 0.9 though. For that, best approach is to compare all entries in the files OpenSim.ini and GridCommon.ini of both versions "Metropolis Edition" and "9.0 RC2". All grid specific entries in 0.9 must be edited as you can find in the Metro files.

Maybe that tutorial helps to find the entries of interest better, they have not changed much in OpenSim 0.9.

Please be aware that such a setup is experimental. There is also a Metropolis Test Grid, which gives the opportunity for testing of 0.9.x regions against the latest-is-greatest OpenSim sources. Normally for tests this one fits better, as in such a setup you can report errors to the OpenSim devs. (Nobody will be interested in problems someone has with 0.9 regions connected to a 0.8 grid.)
