Media with video gallery

The video compilation I made from so far 128 videos made in Metropolis Metaversum is now also available in-world, in the region Media (formerly MB Sea 63).

There is a tall gallery, which is really just a large, winding staircase with video screens mounted along its inner walls. You should be able to start and stop videos using the small control panel that shows when hovering your mouse pointer on each screen.

There are also 2 small theatres with large video screens. You can choose the video to display by clicking the border of the screen and browse and choose from the video list. You start and stop the chosen video using the small control panel that shows when hovering your mouse pointer on the screen.

I played around some with the design if the gallery and theatres, but i tried to keep the core simple, with each video screen being just one prim with one very stripped and robust script. It works equally well as a standalone, like in the theatres, or linked in a building, like in the gallery, and adapts screen image ratio to the video image ration by resizing.

The logistics behind the video presentation is far from simple though, and required a lot of thought, experimenting and learning new things to make everything work and also be sustainable for the future, with additions of more videos and other updates. Still, it was a fun challenge, and this work should not clutter the presentation itself, so just relax and have fun looking and clicking around.

Very cool Magnuz :). So don't make a vid from this building, that could result in an infinite loop ;)

Astronomy now with orrery

Beitragvon Magnuz Binder » Di 18. Nov 2014, 00:07

There is now an orrery (solar system model) in the region Astronomy, south of the central observatory building. It displays the Sun and the 8 major planets in scale 1:100 000 000 (1 cm is 1000 km), their orbits in scale 1:100 000 000 000 (1 m is 100 million km), orbiting at a pace corresponding to 1 s being 2 months. You can start and stop the planets by touching, and ride them around the sun, getting a short presentation of them then.

The models of the heavenly bodies range in size from little Mercury, being less than 5 cm in diameter, to the Sun, being 15 m in diameter (semi-transparent, since it engulfs the solar system almost out to the Jupiter orbit in this scale). The orbits range from Mercury's being 1.2 m across to Neptune's being 90 m across. And the orbital periods range from 1.5 s for Mercury to 16.5 minutes for Neptune.

More work on the orrery is already planned and partly ongoing, adding more information and details to the solar system.

How cool is that?! Imagine that any Renaissance or Enlightenment ruler or wealthy man would have been proud to own such an instrument. And now Magnuz just built one for us.

This is fun. Which is the fastest planet? The inner planets move incredibly fast, but their orbit is small. Neptune has quite a way to go.

To ride the inner planets you can click their orbits to stop / start motion, which makes it easier to ride them.

I have updated the second post on this topic with MB Estate region presentations with some new information and 55 all new high-resolution videos. Also, the previously broken links to the Metropolis teleporter pages are working again now. Hopefully I will be able to maintain that post better in the future, since I plan to keep developing the MB Estate regions.
